Getting ready for your first spray tan appointment may seem like a difficult task at first. Use these spray tanning tips from Golden Goddess to make it easier and to get the best spray tan ever!
What to do the DAY BEFORE your appointment:
Shaving or Waxing: Always do this the day before your tan. If you do them the same day as your appointment, residues from the soap or wax can create a barrier that won't tan well.
Manicures or Pedicures: Soaking and scrubbing will help exfoliate before your appointment; however, any lotions or oily scrubs can block your tan from developing if you do them the same day as your tan! Schedule your mani and pedi the day before your spray tan.
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! Use a body scrub or glove to exfoliate the dead skin cells off. Exfoliating creates an even surface for the spray tan application which helps the spray tan last longer and fade evenly. Don't forget to scrub your feet, knees, elbows, neck and chest! Exfoliation is the MOST important prep for your spray tan.
What to do the DAY OF your appointment:
Don't apply any lotions, oils, deodorants, or perfumes the day of your appointment.
Make sure to take off any makeup or deodorant with a warm, wet washcloth.
Pick out what to wear during and after your spray tan. After your tan, wear LOOSE clothing like a loose fitting sundress, flip flops, athletic wear, t-shirts, or a robe (if you are getting a tan in-home). Wearing tight clothes like leggings, socks, boots, and a bra can make your tan streaky and ruin the overall tan.
Limit physical activity today! Heavy sweating the next 24 hours can cause your tan to streak.
Ask your spray tan technician the best time to rinse with water or shower. Spray tans can have different rinse times ranging from 1 hour to 24 hours. Prepare to not use soap, including face wash or shampoo, for the next 24 hours for best results.
During your first rinse, expect the brown bronzer to wash off. The bronzer is merely cosmetic and not your tan washing off! Your full tan will develop 24 hours from your appointment.
